Peter Rabbit Lift-the-Flap Words, Colors and Numbers

Peter Rabbit Lift the Flap Words, Colors and Numbers, based on the original edition by Beatrix Potter, is an oversized board book that introduces young children to the story of Peter Rabbit.   A short part of Peter Rabbit’s story is told on the pages with an accompanying task (find the colors, etc.).   Its interactive features make the discovery of words, colors, and numbers fun as the flaps are opened to reveal the items listed in picture format.  We especially like that when the flap is opened, the word is also revealed, exposing children to written symbols for the colors and illustrations.  This is a fun book to add to your library!

Jingle Jokes

Jingle Jokes (Christmas Riddles to Deck the Ha Ha Halls), by Katy Hall and Lisa Eisenberg with pictures by Stephen Carpenter, is a lift the flap book with bright illustrations of Santa, his elves, and polar animals. Some jokes are printed on the page with the answer, and some require lifting the flap to discover the answer.  A favorite of ours is:  Where do elves keep their money?  In the snow bank

Jingle Jokes is a great book to add a little humor to your family times during the Christmas season.  As life gets busy, it’s nice to take some time out to share some good laughs with your children!

Come Rhyme With Me!

We love to read Come Rhyme with Me!, by Hans Wilhelm.  The author uses the alphabet to introduce animals via a rhyming pattern that’s completed by the reader.   Each two-line rhyme ends with a paper flap (with lines to indicate how many letters the rhyming missing word has) covering the rhyming word.  After the reader/listener has guessed the word, the flap can be lifted to reveal the correct word.  The rhymes are high interest and are illustrated by bright, humorous pictures.  This book invites interaction with the reader and listener.  It’s a great book to use to introduce children to rhyming in a fun way.

Eric Carle books are a favorite for our reading times! Eric Carle’s ABC is one of his books that we re-read often.  It is a hit with babies and toddlers, and children quickly learn to read the animal names that accompany each letter of the alphabet.  The book is filled with Eric Carle’s signature artwork while flaps that open on alternating pages reveal the next letters in the alphabet.  This classic book is a great gift for families who are building their home libraries.  We hope you enjoy looking at and reading this book!

Knock, Knock! Who's There?

Does your family enjoy jokes and riddles?  We love laughing!  A good book to introduce knock-knock jokes is Knock, Knock! Who’s There?, by Tad Hills. Each knock knock joke’s question is printed on the left side of the book while the response is give on the right side.  The “who” portion is a flap that is lifted to reveal “who’s there” in the joke. The bright illustrations and large print are very appealing to children as they read through the book to discover the jokes.  This book really serves as a jumping off point for children as they learn more knock-knock jokes.  Enjoy some good laughs with your young child!

Happy Father’s Day, by Mercer Mayer, continues the Mercer Mayer tradition of appealing critters and their antics.  This book shows different ways that Little Critter and Little Sister strive to show their love for their Father.  An added feature of this book is the lift the flaps on each spread that reveal a surprise.  This is just a fun book for children to read with their dads.

Hooray for St. Patrick's Day

Hooray for St. Patrick’s Day, by Joan Holub, is a fun look at various traditions we celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day.  Children enjoy the colorful illustrations and the lift the flap book format to find fun expressions of each tradition.  This book is easy enough for young readers to read aloud, especially using the short glossary found on the back cover.  We hope you enjoy reading this book this month!
