A To Z, by Sandra Boynton, is an amusing board book that can
be read to young children and serve as a mentor text for older children. Her illustrations are typical of her
style: simple, expressive, and
colorful. Each letter of the
alphabet names an animal with an alliterative action verb. The action verbs could serve as a good
springboard for using descriptive words in older children’s writing. Boynton’s books always bring smiles as
we read them. A To Z is another
great example of her style!
*Which animal is your favorite?
*Can you think of some more verbs to describe each animal?
